It has been a week since our amazing candle filled night at the flat. This past week has been filled with a mountain of work and not much else. We were put into "firms" in our class and given a huge project. We had to conduct an international arbitration from start to finish. This would entail depositions, affidavits, preparing opening/closing statements, and preparing direct and cross examinations.
This would also force 8 of us to work together for the next month or so preparing what would be our final project. The first meeting went pretty smoothly and everyone seemed to get along. But by the second meetings the claws were starting to come out. When you stick 8 type A personalities in one room and force them to put egos aside, it becomes one hard hard task.
Aaron and I were so thankful to be on the same team so we at least were able to spend time with each other. We are both interested in the same type of law so our minds tend to work alike. But we had so many other legal backgrounds in the group that putting us together seemed to not be working. This group project was what was consuming our every waking moment lately. It was hard to still want to spend time with these people outside the class/work environment.
Aaron and I had decided we wanted to take in one of the many plays that London has to offer. We found a perfect one. If anyone ever gets a chance to see it, it is a must!! The play is called "Some Girl(s)" and when we saw it, it was starring David Schwimmer as the lead. I must say it was totally worth the money. That night was also a nice distratction from all the bickering that had been going with our group members over legal strategy and what was the best route to be taking in our case.
After the play we found what we thought looked like a really good Italian restaurant. We sat down and ordered and waiting with anticipation for our food. I was starving and was happy to be eating more then sandwiches (which is what my lunch had consisted of for the past week). When our food came it looked delicious. But that bubble was burst with our first bite. The food was horrible. It tasted like a TV dinner you would buy at the grocery store. By the end of the meal we were both laughing so hard at how bad it actually was that it made dinner enjoyable.
When we were making our way back to the flat we realized that we were still starving, so we stopped at the Chinese restaurant near our flat and picked up some take out. We took the food back to the flat and sat in our kitchen with our files in front of us. We had a closing statement to write that would have to withstand the scrutiny of our group.
It has been a week full of work and there is only more to come. Because there had been so much work and everyone around us had been so crabby we were trying to plan another weekend trip somewhere. Our school had another program in Italy that was going on at the same time, and we both had friends there right now. We were able to get in touch with them and secured ourselves a free place to stay. We booked our flights on Ryan Air and could not be more excited to be traveling to Italy.
I cannot wait to share yet another city with this amazing man!
